Scotch Whisky Links
Aberlour - The Aberlour 10 Year Old is one of my favorite relatively inexpensive single malts.
Edradour - Scotland's smallest distillery.
Scotch Clubs and Organizations
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society - A membership organization that purchases individual casks from distilleries around Scotland, and then produces limited bottlings of unfiltered, single cask, single malt scotch whisky at full cask strength - available to members only.
|Retail Sources for Scotch
The Washington State Liquor Control Board - Here in Washington, state owned and operated liquor stores are the only place you can buy scotch. This page allows you to search for a list of the scotch varieties carried, and find out which stores have them. Go to the "select brand category" section, and choose "whiskey - scotch" [sic] on the pull-down menu.
Park Avenue Liquor - In case there is a scotch that you can't find at the state-run liquor stores, it is possible to buy scotch from out-of-state retailers and have it shipped. Here's one site that has a very good selection and pretty good prices.
Wine and Liquor Depot - This is a discount liquor store in Van Nuys, California. They used to claim to have over 550 single malts in stock -- the "Largest Selection in America" -- but now their selection seems more limited, and their site is now harder to navigate. You can't order on-line, but they have a toll-free phone number.
Internet Wines - Another source for on-line shopping.
General Scotch Sites
The Whisky Web - A lot of good links and information, including the full content of two of the most popular malt whisky guides: The Malt Whisky File and Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion.
scotchwhisky.com - Some good articles, tasting notes and other information, but they seem focused mostly on directing you to their store.
Whisky World - This site is associated with Whisky Magazine. It contains selected articles from the magazine, as well as some other good content.
