The Death Penalty

In a nutshell, I think that the death penalty is morally wrong and is bad public policy.  There is no credible evidence that shows the death penalty to have a greater deterrent effect than life imprisonment, it costs much more to implement than alternative punishments, it's implementation has been repeatedly shown to reflect racial and economic biases, then there is the ongoing possibility (or probability) of executing an innocent person.  In short, the death penalty serves no useful purpose, is fraught with serious problems, and should be abolished.
